When Legos where Cool

They don’t make Legos like they used to. Now they are all less then 20 pieces and all movies themed just for cross merchandising.  Here are some of the sets I had as a child. You could mix and match and build all sorts of cool stuff. I used to love getting them for my birthdays and ripping them open, shorting the parts and looking over the instructions on how to put them together.

Hero Quest Commercial 90's

Commercial from when I was a kid. My cousins had a copy but when hardly got to play it because my uncle hardly ever wanted to game master. We bagged and begged every time I spent the night but when we did play it was pretty cool. That’s really where all the Warhammer and gaming came in to my world. They had 2 copies so we would take one and make our own games out of it and Battle Masters. But they had Warhammer also; my uncle had tons of figures. He had a Skeven army, one cousin had a High Elf army the other a Dwarf army and I had Empire.  We never got to play Warhammer that at all. I am thinking now because my Uncle did not want to explain all the rules. We just made up games of our own and did some horrible paint jobs LOL. The paint would dry up and clump yuck they just look bad.

Warhammer army update

Here are some painting updates. Iam trying to make some progress with painting. In 2 weeks I'm done with school and would like to start playing again.

Felix Jaeger and Gotrek rules

I went and dug up the rules for Felix and Gotrek for my own use, but he I know how to share.



Gotrek and Felix are two itinerant wandererss whose travels across the Old World and beyond have taken them into many battles. Gotrek and Felix are a special kind of Dogs of War unit and can be included as a Rare choice in any army of Dwarfs, Empire, Bretonnians (although they are not normally allowed Dogs of War) or Dogs of War (see WD 251 and 252). They must be fielded exactly as detailed below, and may not be given any additional equipment or magic items.

Gotrek and Felix form a skirmishing unit of 2 models. Even though they must remain together both are characters and all the rules for characters apply (challenges, targeting restrictions, victory points, etc.). They can move freely like other skirmishers, and have a 360 degree arc of sight.

Weapons: Gotrek carries his Rune Axe, Felix is armed with the Wyrmslayer Blade.

SPECIAL RULES

GOTREK
Gotrek Gurnisson is the most accomplished Slayer in the Warhammer world, having felled mighty creatures from the Badlands to the Realms of the Chaos. As a Daemon Slayer he is Unbreakable and while he lives so is Felix. In addition, Gotrek's Strength is always equal to the Toughness of his target, unless it would normally be higher. This means he always wounds on a minimum of 4+. His modified Strength is used for armour save modifiers. Note that for Gotrek there is no maximum limit to how high his Strength can be increased with this skill. As a Dwarf, Gotrek hates all greenskins, and pursues and flees 2D6-1". Whilst Gotrek is alive, Felix may only flee and pursue 2D6-1" as well. Note: Gotrek is also relentless (may march within 8" of the enemy) although as a skirmisher he may already do this.


GOTREK`S AXE
Gotrek's mighty Rune Axe is empowered with potent spells of cutting and cleaving. For each of Gotrek's initial Attacks that hit, he gains one extra Attack. Roll to hit with his first Attacks and then allocate and roll to hit for any bonus Attacks he gains. In addition, any opponent with Toughness 5 or more who suffers a wound (after saves, etc) loses 2 wounds.


WYRMSLAYER BLADE
This enchanted sword thirsts for the blood of dragons, urging its wielder to confront these monstrous beasts and imbuing them with unnatural ferocity and speed.

The Wyrmslayer Blade adds +2 to Felix's Attacks. In addition, if there is a Dragon within his charge range you must delcare a charge against the Dragon. Against Dragon's, the Wyrmslayer blade allows Felix to re-roll missed attacks and failed rolls to wound.


GOTREK`S DOOM
The Dwarf Ancestor Gods seem to have some plan for Gotrek, driving him towards an unknown doom. Since swearing his oath to accompany the Slayer, Felix has also been bound into this mysterious destiny. Although this means that they are forever wandering, unable to settle, they are also able to survive battles that see thousands of others die. To represent this, Gotrek and Felix have a 4+ Ward save and Magic Resistance (2) - note this is two dispel dice for the both of them, not two each. However, Gotrek may never join a unit, and so while he still lives Felix may not join a unit either. If Gotrek is removed as a casualty, his Doom has no further effect on Felix.

Hero quest for android

I was looking for apparently today and stumbled across a direct translation of hero quest. If you don't know the game it was a turn based table top dungeon game with cool figures and doors. They say multiplayer is coming I hope so. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Painting the Ranks

I did some painting this weekend while catching up on True Blood with my wife. I took her to the game store with me to get some colors (she has never been to one with me before) she gave me the “O my God, my husband is a dork. In which I responded no not dork Geek. I am really pleased with how my knights turned out. I have to get some Warhammer bases to transfer my figures over. If you are really nice you could send me some if you have some extras. Any who let me know what you think about my paint jobs.

These are hard to paint because the older models have a lot less detail.

Super friends

Through all the movies and tusken raiders (little kids) here are the bravest of all the super friends figures from my youth.

BattleMasters turns Warhammer

I talked my room mate into playing battle masters with me the other day. The thing I never like about this game was all the turns a decided by a deck of cards who gets to go when. Because of this I one the first game and he one the second game because he got a knight card almost 10 times in a row. He got a little cocky so I gave him a crash course in Warhammer using only the movement rules and the stats, no special rule in play. Needless to say I handed him a swift thrashing. He still thinks that he could beat me I assured him he could never beat me at Warhammer. Any how here are some pics I even got around to making a table I am planning on painting it. Let me know your thoughts on Warhammer and Battle Masters.

Ghost Busters toys

I was at a yard sale a while back and found a whole bunch of ghost buster figures from the 80’s. This took me way back to when I used to play with my cousins, they had just about every figure. (The only one I had was the slimed luis.)  I was kind of excited because I thought there where 3 of the 4 1^st series figures, turns out they were the later slimed edition. It turns out that towards the end of the run they started using the original molds again to make the figures but added extra features ie. Slimed and glow in the dark. I picked it up for $10 which was a steal. Check out the pics below and let me know any ghost buster stories that you have.

Judge Dreed movie

I seen the trailer for the new Judge Dredd movie the other day witch blew me away. I was never a fan of the comic but it looks awesome. My only reference to the character is seeing cover of books and the Stallone movie from my child hood. It looks way more serious from the first attempt at the movie.

The only thing that kind of threw me for a loop in the trailer was the constant scowl; that look like it would start hurting your face. I am glade they are taking comics more seriously I think we will get some great movie experience from them looking forward to it.

Gotrek and Felix Jaeger

Out of all the warhammer figures I've had all the army have come and gone I've had these two figure the longest. Felix and Gotrek can be used with any army and you had to find the rules for the special addition of white dwarf magazine. I think some of the older figures are way cooler looking in the new ones. I really like the way my paint job came out on them by far my best work at least. I'm pretty sure these figures are out of print by now I got them back in the early 90's. Gotrex is a dwarf slayer who enters battle seeking death. Felix Is the son of an empire noble man whose life was saved by Gotrex. Felix pleaged a life vow to Gotex after his life was saved. Following a crazed dwarf who is set on a death in the heat of battle will make for an interesting afternoon.
