Heroica

I got these for my daughter to play with me when she gets older. I wanted to make sure I got them now before they stoped makeinf them like hero quest when I was a kid. I seems like a fun game that you can customize and you are encouraged to make new rules as you go. It you have kids I think it would be a fun one to start them gaming.

5 down and 1 to go the only 1 missing from series 2 now is daredevil. Most likely will have to buy series 1 online. I have them lined up on the dash in my van to keep me company. I now have 3 Dr. Dooms, 2 Cyclopses and a thing in doubles if any one wants them.

Marvel buildables

I was at pizza hut the last week before our extended hospital stay picking up a pizza before I stopped by my local comic store; when I came across these. I keep looking over at them going I don’t need that, I really don’t need that. So I went to the comic store to pick up the latest Auqaman book and when I came back to pick up my pizza I dropped my dollar in and out popped out a Dr. Doom. How can you not like these? I have since went back and picked up Cyclopes and the Thing along with a few duplicates.

All can be found on ebay as a complete set, but what’s the fun in that.

If any one is iterested in my extras I will sell them for the dollar that I bought them for plus shipping. If you have some I dont I will also trade.

Day 5

We have been in two different hospitals now over the course of a week and it has been a long week. We think we have it figured out and are hitting it with a metric ton off meds. The Gracie is drowsy and cuddly today probably because we are pumping her full of anti-biotic, anti viral and anti fungal cocktails. The kido sat on my lap last night and watched star wars (or at least 20 minutes before she fell asleep) with me and was pretty transfixed. I am sure it was the drugs. I am ready for her to come home.

 

On arrival at the second hospital which we only agreed to come to because they had the iv meds she needed; we were told we don’t have that med. Thus begun world war 3.5. it turns out they did have it they just wanted to make there own diagnosis of the situation. But this is not the way to great 4 people who what to see their little girl come home. It took hour but now she is getting the works pumped in and should be on the road to recovery.

Sick Pumpkin

My little girl is in the hospital with an infected eye. It looks like she was attacked by a wild monkey or something. It is a very helpless feeling when you child is sick. You have to help people who are trying to make them better by making them hurt more. You want to say no, no go away but instead you are holding your baby down as accomplices in the act. When I was still drawing blood from pediatric patients the parents who always say  as I was leaving the room; “the bad man is leaving”. That always made me upset I am trying to help you child get better and you are talking bad about me as I walk out the door.  Now I am the parent and I still feel like the bad man. They had to do a CT scan and even though she was sedated and did not suffer at all during it was very hard for me to watch.

New Old Warhammer figures

I came across a great deal on some Out Of Print Empire figures. I have been putting together an army of units that I remember from the late 80’s and early 90’s when I started collecting.

Cool standard bearer I am definatly putting in my army.

A Hafling comand unit with one spearman. I dont think they have been used the in the game for a while. I am thinking about using them as comand and champions of my halbard units.

Vintange Hell Blaser and crew

This is wha made me jump all over the post. I have been looking for more OOP Halbardiers for my army. It cam with over 40 halbard figures so I have enough for a huge block or 2 smaller ones. I have been looking for spearmen also but Ill use these for now.

And I got 2 original boxes (the real box is not this out of focus). I posted the other stuff that came with this lot below, most of which I am not keeping. Not that its not cool I just want other stuff.

Working man

First off let me say sorry for not posting in a while. I have been working 60 hour weeks and have not had much time for geeking out. I did however finally get a chance to read Kevin Smiths “Cacophony” that I picked up at a comic store by my job in Temecula CA. The shop is called “Thou Shall Game” and is a combination comic and gaming store; I always thought the two went hand in hand.

So I guess for the sake of content I’ll bust out a little review. I will start by saying I am a fan of Kevin Smith and am a listener of the SMOD Cast network. The art work in this comic was done by Walt Flanagan, Kevin’s long time friend, manager of the comic store Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret stash as well as co-hosting of the Tell em Steve Dave Pod on the SMOD Cast network. The art work is very good and the way Mr. Flanagan draws the joker reminds me of the joker in Death in the Family and I get very vivid images from that book from my childhood in my head while I was reading it. The story is very interesting as well and is seems to me to be a in depth examination of the relation ship of Batman and the Joker.



Best examples I could find on the inter-webs

 

Ill give this title an 8/10 overall while not blowing my doors off was a very good read. I do want to say I think the theme of the comic was not as much spectacle as investigative of the characters; no that there where not some very cool scenes and great pay offs. Hmm while thinking back on it ill bump it up to 8.75/10. Either way I recommend it!

Old Man Logan Review

I have decided to try a written review since no one seems to look at the video ones: not to mention the time it takes to make one. I finally got to read “Old Man Logan” after hearing so much about it.

 

            The story takes place 50 years after the Villains of the Marvel Universe unite and slaughter the Heroes of the world to take control and shape it in the way they see fit. The United States was split up between the leading Villains from west coast to east coast The Hulk, Magneto (who was over taken by the new King Pin), Osborn, and the Red Skull. Logan (Wolverine) is one of the few Heroes left in the world and is living in near poverty with his wife and kids in Sacramento under the Hulks district. The Hulk in this book is raging hill billies with a gi-normious family of inbreed children and are ruthless land lords of California. Logan is falling behind on his rent and this is causing problems. Logan has sworn never to act in violence due to the events that laid out later in the book during the Villains raise to power. Logan gets a massive beat down at the hands of the hill billy off spring of the Hulk, and this is the driving force of the story. Logan has to pay the rent (I feel like my name is Logan), while in bed healing up from his injuries he is visited by an old friend Clint Barton(Hawk Eye of the Avengers) another of the remaining ex-heroes who is suffering from glaucoma. Clint offers Logan a way to pay the rent by being his wing man for a delivery across the country.

 

            This story is a road trip across a post apocalyptic America with our favorite mutie Wolverine. The story is amazing and there are several great story line pay offs. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. If I tell you any more I would ruin the story and world have to write spoiler ever other line. Check it out tell me what you think.

How to strip of Paint off Models

Thought I would share how to strip paint off of old models seeing that I got some off ebay that need to fit in to my army. Not that my painting is super good but....

So here is what you do take some pine sol and put it in a cup just enought to cover the models and then cover with a plastic bag or tin foil to keep out debris. let the cup sit over night sit.
 
The next day remove model from cup. I recomend using a glove and you will see why in a second. Take a used old toothbrush that you no longer need or a gold wire brush works even better. I used the sink in my garage becasue of the fumes, if you dont have a garage an out side water spigot works just as well.


You can now see why you need the gloves, it is a bit messy and the old paint will stick to your hands.



With a little elbow grease thye will look just about new.

Presto now they are ready for for my sub-par paint job.
Yeah I will not have to proxy my Wizard and War Priest now.

First Time Back

I finally got my list and most of my army together so I am ready to play. It has been about 5 years since I played last and this is a completely different army then I used last time, so I did not really figure on winning. There have been some rule changes so I had to used to them, not to big a deal. The biggest thing was learning how the army works in real play as to on paper.

So I go down to the closest game store last Wednesday because I learned that when people mostly play fantasy. I find a game get set up with this kid Tyler and ask “what army do you run?” He says “Oh, Warriors of Chaos.” I’m thinking oh great this is going to suck. Fist time back new rules new army and up against the most kill happy hard as nails army in the game. Also I had up to this point never played a WoC army: but by reputation alone not psyched about it.

Tyler was pretty cool in filling me in on new rules and changes as we went and was not a rule Nazi: just a friendly game.

Chaos knight and Muraders on the right

Warrior Nugling and what ever there war alter thing is and Demon Prince in the Middle and some lesser Demon somethings to the left. Also lvl 2 mage.

Cross bows, a block of Halberiers with a war priest with detchements of Spears and Archers. Hiding in the back I have my lvl 4 proxy of a Wizard (waiting on model in the mail thats what happens when you buy from the U.K)

the Black thing is Karl Franz on Deathclaw (I'll expalin in a min.) 2 Cannons and some ill placed Rikes Kights: with a witch hunter floting around for no reason.

Start Turn 1

He wins first turn and move froward jumping his Demon Prince Forward and make some other little move I also do the same uneventfull turn 1 stuff. Magic cast all dipelled no big deal. His Cannon fails what ever test it needs to be use full. My cannons do nothing due to bonching and rules that i look up later tell me that some thing I was told about the cannon in this game not quite right. Next time Gadget.

Turn 2



Demon Prince Slams my archer, Chaos Knight in to my spears. I Learn a Leason on how not to use detachments. Me thinks to keep the base unit ahead of detachents.   I am not sure if thats as true as he said; we will see in the future. Spears run off after loseing combat.

Turn 3

Uneventful magic he cast rot and rolled bad causeing very little damage to me. I regen some wounds with lore of life. I get ant-sy and charge with my Knight.

Lose badly with my IC Knight which run off the board eventually.

On My turn Karl Franz Kills Deamon Prince which is explanded to me after the game was a destraction because the demon prince in not that tought, but looks scary.

Knights win combat on Warriors and run them down. Made me happy =)

Halbards Charge Chaos Kights: Lose battle but stick.

Turn 4

Nurgling Charge Halbards Spears Rally. Rikes Knight move some where they can do some good, becuase there stupid general put them be hind some crossbows.

On my turn I charge my Rikes Knight in to the Nurglings and Spears into the Chaos Kights.  Karl Franz goes to kill some war machines to get me some more points.

Turn 5

Lose all Infantry in battle, Knight do Damage to Nuglings.

Karls wipes out cannon

I lose my cannons and every thing on the right side of the board.

And lose just about every other Combat there is for the rest of the game leaving me at the end with only Karl left. Sooo.....I lost, But leard some good lesons.



Now when I made my list I did not know how many points they usally play so I was under pointed by about three to four hundred. Tyler let me make some quick changes and let me use that black model for Karl because I had brought him on horse back. I think a diffrent magic would have been good and a few other things I will Tweek. Next time will be better.
